Background of Two-Handed Racing at CYCA
In the 2021 Rolex Sydney Hobart, Two-Handers joined the Sydney Hobart fleet with Jules Hall and Jan "Clogs" Scholten's diskoTrooper/Contender Sailcloth winning the Two Handed division in IRC, but not eligible to claim their 4th overall or 1st in the division they would have been placed in.
People Who Influenced Me
In September 2021 the CYCA asked me to type out a piece, "People Who Influenced Me". Well I wrote a fair bit more than what they asked for. Here is the un-abbreviated version:
Across Five Decades
I have been placed in some fortunate situations throughout my life and being asked to review Richard Bennett’s latest book, ‘Across Five Decades’ is now high in my memories of being involved with the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
2019 Les Voiles St Barth
The 2019 tour for Les Voiles St Barth started in Antigua for Tori and I to prepare Triple Lindy for the delivery to St Barths in the French Virgin Islands, the Les Voiles St Barths regatta and then the delivery to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, through the British Virgin Islands.
Report on CYCA's Blue Water Sailing
The CYCA prides itself to be Australia’s leading blue water yacht race venue. The club has continually attempted to improve its management and running of its events and meet future challenges.
2019 Caribbean 600
I had the pleasure of competing the 2019 RORC Caribbean 600 on board Joe Mele’s fixed keel Cookson 50, Triple Lindy. This was my first RORC Caribbean 600 and after many good reports regarding the race, I am pleased to recommend the race to any owner and team who want to be challenged over a fast two to three-day course.
2018 Newport to Bermuda Yacht Race
Tori and I arrived in New York City on Memorial Day weekend, in which we were dutifully taken to the boss’s family farm south of the city for the weekend for some much need R&R, trekking and eating as much crab and pizza as we could possibly muster. After our relaxing weekend with the boss and family we headed straight to Newport, Rhode Island to see how our charge faired up during shipping.
2016 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race Record
What a year! We started our program for the 2016 RSHYR in September 2016 when we were given the go ahead to rebuild the forward structure of Perpetual Loyal and replace all running rigging and a small refit to the yacht. These works were completed by contractors Andy Dovell, Midcoast Boat Builders and Sydney Rigging Specialist by the end of November, were we had Loyal crew, myself and Chris Maxted working full time under Joe Akacich’s management. We completed these works by the end of November and delivered her to Sydney with 40% of our Hobart squad and few mates.
